11/2/2017 2:45:00 PM Fire destroys shed in rural Hayfield
On October 31st, 2017 at 10:26 p.m. the Dodge County Dispatch received a report of a barn on fire with multiple vehicles and equipment inside at a farm site near the Olmsted County line on State Highway 30 in rural Hayfield. The reporter also indicated there were no injuries, however there was a propane tank was 150 feet from the building so he was moving all outside vehicles away from the fire making room for the fire department to respond.
Deputies were dispatched to respond along with Hayfield Fire Department and Kasson Fire Department for mutual aid. The Stewartville Fire Department was also paged for mutual aid for tankers.
Deputies responding indicated they could see the fire a mile out from the scene. When Deputies arrived, they found the 80-50 foot structure fully engulfed in flames. The owner reported several vehicles and items inside the structure including a truck, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, boat, tractor, dune buggy, atv, mowers, and many other items. There were also 5 hens and 2 roosters in the building as well. The owner indicated he was unsure what started the fire. He said something "popped" in the barn prior to it starting.
Fire crews cleared from the scene at approximately 1230am.
The building and all of its contents were a total loss - values yet to be determined.
