For Moitzheim, volunteering is just her way

She lives in Pine Island, but for the past three years has volunteered her time in Byron, spending the last two years as secretary of the chamber of commerce.
In addition to owning a locksmith business that services Pine Island, Rochester and its surrounding areas, Dena Moitzheim's reasoning for spending time here is simple.
"The goal is to get the communities involved and to improve the entire area," she said. "It's not Byron vs. Rochester or Rochester vs. Kasson."
For her efforts, which included being a key organizer of last year's business showcase event, Moitzheim was named Volunteer of the Year at the annual chamber banquet Jan. 17 held at Somerby.
"I was very flattered," she said of the honor.
Moitzheim has owned "Auto Busters" since 1998.
She is also a growing number of chamber members who live outside of Byron.
The chamber is now home to 80 members, including ones from Byron, Pine Island, Rochester, Dodge Center and Blooming Prairie.
Mary Blair-Hoeft, city administrator for Byron, said that Moitzheim's award was well deserved.
"She doesn't have an address here, but she cares about Byron," she said.
The Byron chamber of commerce meets on the third Thursday of the month at Somerby.
