Alien Invaders!: The Aquatic Animals and Plants That Threaten The Zumbro River Watershed Feb. 14

Summary: Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and hundreds of rivers and streams. Unfortunately a handful of aquatic invasive animal and plant species threaten to clog our lakes and rivers and threaten game fish and other native species. Learn what you can do to protect the Zumbro River from "biological pollution" that could cause more problems than chemicals in our waterways. Discover what Minnesotans need to do to solve this problem in a state where only half of boat owners appear to be properly cleaning their boats. Kevin Strauss, M.S. Ed., Zumbro Watershed Partnership Education Coordinator, will give you a crash course in the aquatic invasive species that threaten our region, from eurasian water milfoil to zebra mussels to spiny water fleas and carp. This talk is part of the Zumbro Watershed Partnership's monthly "Water Ways Speaker Series," 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 14, at the Cascade Meadow Wetland and Environmental Science Center, 2900-19th St NW, Rochester. For more information, contact Kevin Strauss, Education Coordinator, Zumbro Watershed Partnership, at 507-993-3411 or education@zumbrowatershed.org.
