Brief Hwy 14 traffic stoppages planned on June 19-20, I-35 lane closures on June 19 south of Owatonna

OWATONNA, Minn. - Highway 14 motorists south of Owatonna will experience brief traffic stoppages on the

evenings of June 19-20 as crews set bridge beams, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews will be setting bridge beams on Highway 14 westbound and the beams need to be delivered to the

eastbound lanes so equipment can access the beams and place them. The work will take place between Steele

County Road 45 on the east and Interstate 35 on the west. Work is expected to begin at 8 p.m., June 19 and

completed by 2 a.m., June 20. The same routine will occur from 8 p.m. June 20 to 2 a.m., June 21.

The Minnesota State Patrol will stop traffic for approximately 15 minutes on Highway 14, while crews deliver the

beam and equipment is used to set the beam. Once the beam is set and the equipment has cleared the road, the

State Patrol will allow traffic to start again until the next beam is ready to be set. Four beams will be set.

Also on June 19, motorists on I-35 south of Owatonna will experience lane changes while crews pour the

concrete bridge decks on the Steele County Road 18 bridge, which crosses I-35. This work will occur during

daytime hours.

Meanwhile, a detour continues for Highway 14 westbound motorists who want to travel north on I-35.

Motorists need to detour through the interchange loops at I-35 by taking the southbound I-35 ramp to the

eastbound Hwy 14 ramp to the northbound I-35 ramp.

This bridge replacement project is in its second of two years south of Owatonna. Twelve bridges are being

replaced on I-35 (eight bridges) and Highway 14 (four bridges). Bridges on southbound I-35 and eastbound Hwy

14 were replaced last year. Two bridges on I-35 that were damaged by a vehicle crash last year are included in

the project. One was replaced last fall and the second is under construction this year.

Lunda Construction Company is the prime contractor for the $29.6 million project.

Motorists interested in more information about the project, may visit the MnDOT project website at and sign up for email updates on the project.

Motorists should always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road

blocked with barriers or cones. For real-time traffic information in Minnesota, call 511 or visit
